UUCPShare
---------
This application is a small bridge between UUCP and MailShare. It is
used to allow users on a LocalTalk network to use Eudora in UUCP mode
and then have MailShare send out the mail via SMTP.
The office I work in runs MailShare on a machine connected to the
outside world via SLIP. No matter which options I considered to
connect the people in the office to the SLIP machine via LocalTalk
nothing seemed to quite work. I didn't want to give up MailShare
because we use it for other reasons (mailing lists, listservers,
automated mailback, etc) so I wrote this small bridge to solve the
problem. This application monitors a folder for UUCP spool files and
then processes those files for MailShare and places them in the
MailShare 'Incoming Mail' folder.
Setup
-----
The way we use this application is as follows: Incoming mail for
users in the office are saved by MailShare using the 'Save as
archive' option. This saves files in a form that can be read by
Eudora. I located all these files in such a way that only the owner
of the file has access to them (ie each file for a user is placed in
a folder that only they have sharing access to on the server). Eudora
users point their Eudora to the file as their incoming mail file.
For outgoing messages users setup Eudora to place the outgoing UUCP
files into a common folder on the server (security shouldn't be an
issue-files won't be there long). That folder is the one that
UUCPShare will monitor.
Once you have launched UUCPShare you can set the paths that it should
use. The UUCP path is the full path to the _folder_ that contains
the outgoing UUCP files from Eudora. The MailShare 'Incoming Mail'
folder path should be the path to 'System Folder:Mail Folder:Incoming
Mail'.
Combined with UUCP Monitor (should be in the same package as this
application) you can put together a pretty good incoming/outing setup
for Eudora.
